Indications:
Traditionally indicated for heat invasion of all three yang stages with interior deficiency due to the improper use of purgatives, presenting with chest and costal distention (Shao Yang stage), mental agitation, irritability, palpitations, delirium (Yang Ming stage), urinary difficulty or retention (Tai Yang stage), and heaviness throughout body (due to all three stages). In clinical practice today it is also used for a combination of syndromes including Liver Qi stagnation, Liver Yang rising, phlegm heat, and Liver and Heart fire and may present with elements of the patterns noted above as well as intense anxiety, nervousness, fear or anger, manic behavior or mania, insomnia, irregular heartbeat that occurs at rest, headaches, acid stomach with hiccups and burping, tendency to constipation. Description:
Plum Flower Chinese Herbal Formula
 
Dosage:
Standard Dosage: 8 pills, 3 x day.
Clinical Dosage: Administer half an hour before or one hour after eating. In severe cases or in the initial phases of treatment, dosage may be increased to 8-12 pills 3 times per day, then reduced to a maintenance dose as the treatment takes effect. For insomnia 8-16 pills may be administered before bed. May be used medium-term for a few weeks to a few months. Once the severe aspects of the condition have been resolved and the phlegm and heat cleared, this formula should be discontinued and long-term treatment be continued with a milder formula, such as Gan Mai Da Zao Wan. Monitor for signs of Spleen Qi deficiency.

Ingredients:
Bupleurum chinense root, Pinellia ternata rhizome, Poria cocos fungus, Cinnamomum cassia twig, Scutellaria baicalensis root, Ziziphus jujuba fruit, Codonopsis pilosula root, Os draconis-toasted, Ostrea gigas shell-toasted, Zingiber officinale rhizome-fresh, Rheum palmatum root. - Chai hu, Ban xia, Fu ling, Gui zhi, Huang qin, Da zao, Dang shen, Duan long gu, Duan mu li, Sheng jiang, Da huang.
 
Contraindications:
Contraindicated during pregnancy and menstruation. Contraindicated for very weak or deficient patients. Use with caution in breast-feeding women as Da huang/rhubarb can pass through the breast milk causing colic and diarrhea in infants. May cause mild abdominal cramping in sensitive patients. Use with caution in Spleen deficient patients with a tendency to loose stools, diarrhea, poor appetite or chronic digestive weakness.
