Indications:
Tai Yang Zheng Feng (externally contracted wind cold) with concurrent Wei Qi (Protective Qi) deficiency leading to an exterior cold deficient condition presenting with fever and chills unrelieved by sweating, no thirst, aversion to wind, headache, stiff neck, nasal congestion, dry heaves. Also for Ying and Wei Fen (Nutritive and Protective Qi level) disharmony presenting with spontaneous sweating without exertion, aversion to wind, feverishness or a subjective feeling of heat, shortness of breath, recurrent common colds and flu, propensity for itchy skin. Tongue: thin white moist coat Pulse: floating, moderate, weak, slow

Description:
Plum Flower Chinese Herbal Formula
 
Dosage:
Standard Dosage: 8 pills, 3 x day.
Clinical Dosage: Administer half an hour before or one hour after eating. In acute or severe disorders, dosage may be increased to 8-12 pills every 2-4 hours, then reduced to a maintenance dose as the treatment takes effect. May be used short-term for few days to a few weeks. Classic texts recommend that hot rice porridge be taken immediately after administration of the formula to promote sweating and stop retching. The porridge is indicated when the diaphoretic actions of this formula are needed but not necessary when the Ying-Wei regulating action is required.

Ingredients:
Cinnamomum cassia twig, Paeonia lactiflora root, Zingiber officinale rhizome-fresh, Ziziphus jujuba fruit, Glycyrrhiza uralensis root-prep. - Gui zhi, Bai shao, Sheng jiang, Da zao, Zhi gan cao.
 
Contraindications:
Contraindicated for conditions due to exterior cold and interior heat characterized by fever with thirst or sore throat with a rapid pulse. Use with caution in the spring and summer, during periods of hot weather, or in warm climates. Use with caution during pregnancy as Gui zhi has some blood invigorating action. However, this formula may be used in the earlier stages of pregnancy for morning sickness with the appropriate TCM pattern identification.
