Indications:
This formula is indicated for three different syndrome patterns: 1. Water buildup (xu shui) due to an unresolved external invasion penetrating to the Urinary Bladder (Tai Yang), presenting with headache, fever, irritability, strong thirst but with vomiting immediately after drinking due to water rebellion disorder (shui ni zheng), urinary difficulty. Tongue: white coat Pulse: floating 2. Deficient Spleen/earth failing to transport water resulting in water and dampness overflowing into the muscles and skin presenting with edema, generalized sensation of heaviness, diarrhea, urinary difficulty. Symptoms may also include vomiting and diarrhea due to sudden turmoil disorder or summer damp invasion. 3. Retention of phlegm fluids in the lower jiao, presenting with throbbing pulsations just below the umbilicus, vomiting frothy saliva, vertigo, shortness of breath, coughing and wheezing. It is most often used alone or adjunctively for mild edema associated with Spleen Qi deficiency and the build-up of phlegm fluids. The edema tends to be worse around the eyes and in the fingers and may be accompanied by scanty urine and urinary difficulty. Tongue: pale Pulse: thin, weak, floating

Description:
Plum Flower Chinese Herbal Formula
 
Dosage:
Standard Dosage: 8 pills, 3 x day.
Clinical Dosage: Administer half an hour before or one hour after eating. In acute or severe disorders, dosage may be increased to 8-12 pills every 2-4 hours, then reduced to a maintenance dose as the treatment takes effect. May be used short to medium-term for a few weeks to a month. Once the acute symptoms of this condition are resolved, this formula should be discontinued, or combined short-term with an appropriate constitutional formula. For severe Spleen or Kidney deficiency use only for a few days in conjunction with an appropriate tonic.

Ingredients:
Alisma orientalis rhizome, Poria cocos fungus, Atractylodes macrocephala rhizome, Polyporus umbellatus fungus, Cinnamomum cassia twig. - Ze xie, Fu ling, Bai zhu, Zhu ling, Gui zhi.
 
Contraindications:
Contraindicated for urinary difficulty due to Yin deficiency. Use with caution during pregnancy. Use with caution for marked Spleen and Kidney deficiency. Use with caution in patients concurrently taking diuretic medication. Overuse of diuretics can harm the Yin and Qi, so prolonged use is not recommended. Watch for symptoms such as dizziness, vertigo, a bland taste in the mouth, and reduced appetite.
